hey, i was wondering what everyones ideas on 3rd wave/riot grrl feminism was? i am new to the site and hoping to get more of a feel, and really see if this space is for me, but i dont really see much here that really inspires me so i guess this is hoping someone may be down with 3rd wave issues and ideas.

I think the 3rd Wave and Riot Grrl are far from over, so it's really hard to tell. But I can't wait for things to really get rolling.

i certainly agree they are far from over but i was just hoping to find more of a response on peoples reflections on the nature of 3rd wave as it is now, and as it was leading up to now.
personally i love 3rd wave. much more inclusive to queer/trans folks and tries to even be more inclusive to men and bois, and seems to be more inclined to more radical perspectives, and of course riot grrl/punk rock and zines make it special aswell.

I, too, am interested in more discussion about the delineation between 2nd- and 3rd-wave feminism. The little I have gleaned thus far leads me to identify as 3rd, being the generation that came after the visibly active feminists of my mother's generation. I feel as if many of the basic rights I enjoy now were fought for and won by the 1st and 2nd waves. As many of my generation now ask, what's next? Or, are there still many issues I am unaware of that need to be addressed?
TrollE, what are your views on the subject?

Judging from your *tears*, I'll guess you're not a huge fan of Le commercial Tigre?

riot grrls/femmes are, from what my gen. are experiencing within activism, seem to consider themselves/call themselves anti-capitalists as opposed to feminists. not that feminism isn't important to us, but we have expanded our critic one step furthur.

If you are in TO come out to Ryerson Monday night to discuss third wave. There is a dialogue among me and three younger women entitled From Second to Third Wave. It's on Monday at 6:30 pm at the new Engineering Bldg on Church and Mutual

Statica, that was certainly true of the cutting edge of an earlier cohort of feminists in Québec and Canada - a lot of us identified with the far left at least as much as with feminism. And I'm certainly not interested in feminism that intends to leave capitalism as it is except provide a few more opportunities for women in boardrooms, bourgeois politics, the military etc...
Not sure I like this wave stuff. What wave is La marche des femmes? I've seen women of all ages - and a broad political spectrum - in that.
