Just following up on discussion in another topic, but do you think it is discriminatory to lump the "Rest of the World" into one topic group?

The Middle East gets its own group, but no such allowances are made for Latin America, Asia, Africa, or Europe. While discussions might not be as extensive or heated for these areas, by lumping them into category, I feel babble just replicates the mainstream media's lack of interest in global issues.

Just a thought, but I think it might be generate some interesting discussion.

Isn't it just a reflection of the few number of discussions about anywhere else?

We Canadians can be as caught up in navel-gazing as our southern neighbours. Babblers are no exception.

I dearly wish we could have more regional forums. (fora?) I think there are babblers who could moderate several. But is there enough interest?

Some of us are keenly interested in countries/regions where we have lived, or have other political or social ties.

As for the Middle East forum, on MANY discussion boards (even Lonely Planet, a travel forum) a specific Middle East or Israel/Palestine forum had to be started up as a corral to keep the squabbles from affecting and infecting the entire board.

If only folks were as interested in Berlusconi, my pet hate!

ceti, have a look among the older threads in RotW. You will see, eg, Uzbekistan threads that occasionally worked their way up to, oh, sixteen posts or so over time, and one Haiti thread that some faithful followers have kept going ... But it's like that.

Anyone who wants that forum to live has got to help bring it to life.

The ME forum was hived off precisely because we did not want it to swamp other discussions. That happened first, actually, at a time when it was swamping the whole of News and Politics. It was ludicrous.
