I've read the Star article and must say that despite its length, I haven't a clue as to what is happening:- no evidence that Canada had anything to do with his release (except some innuendo from one notoriously unreliable source only - P. Mackay);
- no clue why he was released
- not much clue why he was held
- no clue what happens next
- no clue whether he can leave the country if he feels like doing so, or whether Canada even asked for that
- after making a typical mega-galactic anti-Iranian hullabaloo over this matter (which may well be justified - but how can any outside observer tell?), Canada refuses to reveal anything of interest, citing "privacy considerations" - in other words, not even claiming that discretion was an Iranian condition in some release deal (in fact, no indication whether or not there was a deal at all), but suddenly being concerned about this gentleman's "privacy".
All I know for 100% sure is that Michael Ignatieff seems happy.
I'm a skeptic by nature, and this isn't the kind of story which will cure me.
sgm, do you know any more than appears in the Star?
