So it look like the capitalists in the USA are on a rampage....

YOu do good work and then you get fired......

quote:
“This was a cost containment measure that occurred in our stores today,” Circuit City spokesman Jim Babb declared in an interview with the Vermont-based newspaper Burlington Free Press. Absurdly, Babb insisted that employees were fired without notice because “if something like that is hanging over their head for two weeks, it doesn’t benefit the employee or the company.”

While claiming they cannot afford to pay more than $22,000 a year—barely above the official poverty rate for a family of four—Circuit City executives are continuing to rake in the cash. According to Forbes.com, president and chief executive Philip Schoonover received $4,514,975 in compensation and an additional $5,459,409 in stock options in 2006. Executive vice-president George Clark drew $1,949,733 in compensation and $4,083,013 in stock options last year.

Too bad they don't have a union. Then they couldn't have just laid off the senior, better-paid workers.

They'll just have to layoff 500 workers and pay Schoonover an extra $10 million for saving the bottom line.

YOu know ... a union would be great but have you seen how the unions in the USA are selling out the workers left and right... just l;ook at the UAW....

it all started when Ronald Reagon fired the air traffic controllers and the unions did nothing about it.... Slowly over time the capitalists in the USA ginaed more and more power and know they think they can do anything they want...

i don't blame them... Like who is really goning to stick up for the workers over there?

The Democrates?

No ... they don't need a sell out union... they need a betterunderstanding of what is happening to them and why it is happening...

They need a true Workers party over there....

Teh workers are so desemated taht shit like this happens on a regular basis...

Its all tied into one big bunch of bullshit...

-Preditarty wars by thier governmetn
-UAW getting court orders to oppose the retiries.
-Democrats helping the Republicans.
- Katrina disaster
- Judges helping the airline industry desamante pensions and the Unions doing nothing about it.

The list goes on and on and on.....it makes me sickkkkk......

the other day I actually need to go to the Source to buy a switch....

Th eemployees were argueing in the back room... When I left the store I said good luck to one of them and he said taht was wha they we argueing about...

so the stress level for all of the employees is high....

If you need to buy something from them ... let the employees know, in one way or another, that you are in solidarity with them...

maybe even mention this web site or others like it ( in my case I would say wsws.org) so they can learn more about what they can do....

Circuit city is a mecca of wanton consumerism. Whereas radio shack was a good source for electronic components, circuit city is mostly just shiny blinking consumer electronics junk.

Even aside from labor rights concerns, I can see no good reason for a babbler to go near there...
