This article in The Age shows how much the Australian Govevrnment is into equality - not only do they want to make sure SSM is outlawed, they also want to severely restrict how hetero marriages are conducted.

quote:

"The words husband and wife connote very traditional roles: the wife at home caring for the children, the husband the bread-winner. Partners is much more fitting for our future and our marriage," she says.

But as their celebrant later made clear, the couple had no choice. After shutting the door on gay nuptials, the Federal Government is clamping down on heterosexuals who deviate from a traditional wedding script.

In a series of edicts to civil celebrants that overturn at least 30 years of accepted practice, the Attorney-General's Department insists couples must exchange vows only as "husband" and "wife". Celebrants must also remind everyone that "marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman".

quote:

Unfuckingbelievable. Nothing surprises me here anymore, it hasn't for a long time.
