In a sad situation in Austria, a teenager murdered his roommate and had started eating him.
quote:
Officers who arrived at the ground-floor flat in the 15th district of Vienna found the body lying in a pool of blood, with body parts spread around the room. Half-eaten parts were found on a plate in the kitchen.

The 19-year-old was sitting next to the victim, his clothes allegedly soaked in blood. He reportedly greeted the officers by saying: “Just look what happened here.” He is believed to have told them that he had quarrelled with the dead man.

The two men lived alone in the shelter, a two-bedroom flat that is run by a private social care company, financed partly by the city authorities. It was created as a first-aid accommodation for mentally ill people living on the street. The residents receive weekly visits from social workers.

Just wait till Rosie DiManno hears about this. A homeless person ate a guy.

Ha! I'm sorry, the story isn't funny, but your take on diManno certainly is.

Seriously though - what an awful story. Clearly the guy isn't in his right mind. Most people don't do something like that and then say to police, gee, look what happened.

Sounds like cheap, no-good, saving-at-the-expense-of-humanity, contracting-out mental health care to me.

As opposed to what? Based on the story description, it sounds like a good-sized apartment with cleaning services and a weekly visit from a social worker to check on the residents. As far as community placement goes, it beats the rooming houses and motels where all too many other mental patients end up living. I doubt that the staff is to blame for this one no matter what the inquest determines.
