Many will have seen the video where singers sing Obama's "Yes We Can" speech in a clumsy duet with Obama himself.

Here is a parody of that effort satirizing McCain.

This video makes me think McCain will go down like Barry Goldwater did.

Anyone ever see this ad?

I don't think that the Johnson ad from 1964 and the Goldwater campaign has any relevance to 2008 and McCain.

No Republican was going to win in 1964. Americans did not vote for Johnson they voted for the memory of JFK.

The best part of the ad is that it ran 1 time and 1 time only.

The story of the ad is greater than the ad itself

I'd argue a few points:

- The ad only ran once as a PAID advertisemnt. It ran repeatedly on news broadcasts free of charge.

- That with the current Republican numbers, McCain's position is pretty comprable to Goldwater's. And Goldwater's defeat only seems "inevitable" in retrospect.

- And that McCain, like Goldwater, tends to speak before he thinks and doesn't think war is a bad thing.

The paralel, to me, seems obvious. In 1964 the Democrats scared the crap out of America by making them really think about the prospect of a Goldwater Presidency. In 2008, the Democrats can - and probably will - do the same. McCain's credentials with independent voters will probably fade pretty fast when they see how willingly he'd start world war 3.

And 4 and 5.

I loved that parody. There's another video demonstrating McCain's "virtues":
