Pint-sized chefs across the United States may be bawling in their brownies following the recall of 985,000 Easy-Bake ovens after complaints children were burned or hurt playing with them.Designed to work like an electric toaster oven, the plastic pink and purple ovens, which sold for about $25 (U.S.), look like mini-kitchen ranges complete with four burners and front-loading oven. They're manufactured by Easy-Bake, a division of Hasbro Inc., the world's second-largest toy maker. The ovens, made in China, are recommended for children 8 and older.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, young children can put their hands into the oven's opening, getting them or fingers caught. Hasbro, based in Pawtucket, R.I., has received 29 complaints of injuries. Five children aged 3, 4 and 5 were reported burned, Hasbro spokesperson Gail Carvelli said in an interview.
Interesting. I'd like to know what kind of dumbass parent would buy an easy-bake oven for a 3 year-old (or let a 3 year-old play around it unsupervised if it belongs to an older sibling).
