This is a transcript from Life-Lines "a student network for Human security" secured online forum. I found the information very interesting and incredibly sad. I felt i should share it with all of you.

Hello all,
Few days ago a new announcement was made. It adressed the universities of baghdad. The terrorists now are giving orders to Iraqi students instead of the ministry of higher education, and they should listen whether they like or not. After all the armed groups have more power and control over the Iraqi lives.

Below is a translation of this announcement which many students are taking seriously and gonna stay home...

To\ Our respectable teachers and dear students in Baghdad universities and institutes
Sub\ An Ultimatum

In order to save your blood from the acts of the Maliky government and its subordinate death squads, namely killing, abduction and plundering to all the scientific aptnesses and the Sunny students in particular, making colleges a safe hold from which they swarm to accomplish the assassinations and abductions against the Sunny teachers and students…From these universities scientists and holy warriors graduated…and in the same place they are killed today.

Therefore, after deliberating with an honest group of experts and university professors, we’ve decided to suspend the official schedule of attendance for the pre and post-graduate students for the 2006-2007 courses in all universities and institutes and private colleges in and their equivalents situated in Baghdad exclusively. First in order to perserve the lives of our scientists and students and second to eradicate the death squads from these universities. We will not rest till we assure the security in them. While concerning the primary and high school students and the students of universities in other cities, they are not included in this ultimatum and will continue attendance as scheduled.

Accordingly we here by demand our Sunny professors and students in special, and the Shiite who are not linked to the traitor parties, we demand them to avoid attendance in colleges this year to preserve their lifes. We give them three days to conclude all their belongings. We know that departing the knowledge grounds are painful but killings of the scientists are more painful...we also know that the Sunny professors and students and the common Shiites will commit to this ultimatum and stop attending.

Whereas for you, students of the death squads, this ultimatum will not appeal to you and you'll keep attending...why not since you satiate on Sunnies blood. To you we say:

Today we will avenge our professors who sacrificed their blood for us and we've prepared what will perish you and our holy warriors are ready and eager for your blood. The universities you've violated will not be a safe ground for you any more and the apostate forces and the heathen guard (referring to the national guard) will not do you any good, and we will choose the time and place to attack you in your houses, your own beds, your streets and inside your universities. You will continue living this horror till your turn comes and we hope this year won't be over before we finish you one by one.

We repeat our appeal to the Sunnies in particular and who ever wants to survive, to stay away from the death squads which take universities as aeries and leave the fight between us and them.

You've been warned...You've been warned...You've been warned

( The campaign to Aid the Professors and Students in Baghdad Universities)

Jamaat Ansar Al-Sunnah ( The Sunna Proponents Group)

To here the announcement ends.

What was said is clearly a trial to seize the academic life in Iraq( and hence the chance of a better future) and deepen the gap between Shiites and Sunnies( the two major islamic divisions in Iraq). Attempts like these were very successful till now and the government seems to be indifferent, why should they?? there are only about 4000 Iraqi casualities per month!!!!!!!!!!!!

See you soon.....

Reading the original text, a more accurate translation of the title of this document would be "Final Warning", not ultimatum.

Finishing a text/speech by repeating 3 times the
heart of the matter stresses the seriousness of the understaking.

I have put the link to the original 'source' and the above translation reflects what the message is all about.

Very sad indeed. I would also be hard pressed to blame this organization for trying to prevent loss of lives in the hands of mercenaries, government militia and other butchers.

I think the title Ultimatum quite accurately reflects the fact that the group which published this text are giving individuals a choice go to school and we will kill you or stay home.

this is absolutely absurd.... how are they trying to prevent the loss of life when they are making a direect threat against the life of so many people???? In my opinion this text clearly articulates what has been a comprehensive effort (from a wide variety of groups) to eliminate accademia in Iraq. If this group was even remotely interested in doing something beneficial regarding schools couldn't they.... guard them???

In the past weeks the Iraqis government has increased security at universities in Baghdad my friend from the "life-lines forum" informed us that his sisters school (the dentistry school)in Baghdad was attacked but luckily the guards were able to defend the school.

Obviously we interpret this story differently.
Jamaat Ansar Al-Sunnah has not been involved in any attack on universities and centres of learning. Its notice is meant, I believe, to interrupt activities at the centres of learning until such time that it has assumed its position as guard. To do this, it has to take control of these centres of learning from the "guards" that the government had put in place and that turned out totally ineffective.

It is no surprise to anyone that some militia are affiliated to different government departments.

It is amazing that so much has been pulicised about Jamaat Ansar Al-Sunnah

http://billroggio.com/archives/2006/09/ansar_alsunnah_shura.php

with everything evil attributed to them and in contrast little is publicized about the militia and other groups who are bent on pure destruction to justify and prolong the occupation.

I hope we can resist the propaganda.

This is an attack on universities. This is an attack on Accademic life as a whole as well as a threat of direct and immediate violece against those who choose to attend school.

where does this believe come from? I can't find any information which confirms this. instead it seems to me that this group is perpetuating the systematic destruction of accademic life in Iraq. Please correct me if im wrong on this point.

Am i correct in assuming this comment is reffering to your link?
