For those babblers who are handing out candy on Hallowe'en night, here is a place you can buy fair trade goodies. Don't forget to spread the word.

Why did I think this thread was about something else entirely??

Like, making sure all the little trick or treaters get an equal share?

Ok, this is the opportunity to tell this one:

Last year at Hallowe'en, I went to the door when the bell rang, and there stood a youngster in a very cute pirate outfit. It was so good I called my wife, telling her to come and have a look.

While I was waiting for her to get there, I asked the little guy, "Where's your little buccaneers?"

He replied, "Right here, underneath my little buccan hat."

That's such a neat idea! I wish I'd known about this soon enough to order it for Hallowe'en. Next year, definitely!

Funny story, maestro. That's the best fun of going to the door, those exchanges with the little kids. Sometimes exchanges with parents who are out on the circuit with wee ones for the first time can be pretty funny too.

And yes -- I would definitely order the Fair Trade goodies if there were time.

I don't know what to do this year. Something about Hallowe'en gets me down. I could just be a grinch and keep the lights off that evening.

a little girl (2 or 3 years old) once dressed up as a pumpkin. she could barely walk in her pumpkin, came up to the door, fell and rolled down the path in front of the house! she wasn't hurt at all. just embarrassed.

Don't be a grinch, skdadl! A few years ago I dressed up as a witch to answer my doorbell--I felt bad that I scared some of the little ones! Too realistic, I guess!

Now, I wear outfits like Mother Goose or someone like that. This year wisewomyn & I are dressing as Raggedy Ann (me) & Raggedy Andy (wisewomyn) to answer the door & then going to a neighbor's party for a bit. It's fun to join the little people's costume activities!

I live in the local "haunted house" so although I buy candy each year, the younger kids seem really scared to come to the door.... I leave the inside door open, and my Bull Mastiff looks out at the little darlings as they approach and barks at them, she always seems a tad disappointed when they run off....

OK, I admit it's an old joke I heard on CBC back when, told by an old hockey guy, sorry can't remember the name.

I posted this when I did because I wanted to give people enough time to look at that idea, yet I didn't want to be so far ahead of time that people "put it off." Sorry for my mistiming, although you might check with Ten Thousand Villages in your city to see if they're selling anything.

You can also tell Nestle to stop sourcing child labour if you wish and haven't already done so.

I think it's a good idea, Aristotleded24. I doubt I'll get trick or treaters this year, as I'm in an apartment building. But I'll be sure to check out Ten Thousand Villages sometime.

I just checked with La Siembra - $45 for 200 of their Cocoa Camino minis, available at the Herb & Spice here in Ottawa. Yowza!

What's a reasonable amount of candy to give each child? I think when I was a kid I wouldn't have been impressed if a house only gave me two wee chocolates, but I'm in a pretty prime location, and there's absolutely no way I could afford more than one bag of those!

Because this issue is timely and because I was late getting to this last year,

*bump*
