I was listening to Sounds Like Canada this morning - the discussion was about the Quebec Liberal government floating the idea of changing the cost to daycare and early childhood education in that province. This is more of the same crap that's happening everyday here in BC - don't we all get sick of this? How the hell do these guys get elected when the average person is going to pay more for everything? I mean, if every woman in the country/province/municipality voted for folks who support people, we would never have to deal with these regressive policies ever again.

Sorry, couldn't help but vent when I heard it...

Can you elaborate more please. What does this mean for mothers? How is it going to affect costs? Do you have a link?

My apologies, now that I've looked for the link, it was actually aired on The Current.

The article blurb is 3/4 of the way down the page and doesn't say too much. There is a link to listen to the conversation.

For any babblers who speak French, here is an on-line consultation on the ECP program. We've already held a demonstration of 25,000 people in Montréal in May (!!!!) to save our $5 a day daycares and the early-childhood system, and there is a broad coalition of the daycare parents and staff, the Fédération des femmes du Québec, the trade union confederations and MANY other groups and associations to defend this important social victory.

By the way, despite the importance of this question for women, please don't frame it JUST as a women's issue. I know several dads who are or were keenly involved in the early childhood education of their kids. And I think it is an important question of social responsibility, even for those of us who are not parents.

CONSULTATION EN LIGNE SUR LES SERVICES DE GARDE AU QUÉBEC
http://www.servicesdegarde.gouv.qc.ca/votre_opinion/index.asp

*** LA PARTICIPATION DES FEMMES EST PRIMORDIALE ***

Bonjour,

http://www.servicesdegarde.gouv.qc.ca/scenarios/scenarios.asp

Actually, it wasn't my intention to frame it solely as a women's issue - I think this is about the welfare of everyone in community - but didn't really know what other category in which to place this story. And, while I know there are many Dads concerned about this, childcare issues are overwhelmingly attended to by women. I should also point out that, with respect to the comment about voting, that it's about women grouping together and using our collective power, regardless of what the men do, in order to represent what is a major issue for many of us.
