Who thinks they're going to give up? They haven't given up on abortion yet.The question is whether or not they, or the question, can remain a meaningful factor in society, not whether or not they can be educated. People like Bill Whatcott are managing to even turn off people I'd have no problem calling homophobes. Two of them left the dark side over his continued presence there and he himself has now been banned from posting there. [ 02 February 2006: Message edited by: RealityBites ]

So that's all there is to it? Maybe the gay community there should issue a few fatwas of its own, making sure to use the word "smite" instead of "beat the shit out of". Sauce for the goose and all that. Doncha just love seeing new ways the Bible can be used for hatred?

Well, I'm gonna declare a "fatwa" on Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Fred Henry, David Mainse, Billy Graham Sr. & Jr., Phreddy Felps, James Dobson, Jimmy Swaggert... I think of some more later. And here's my rationale:
quote: Matthew, Chapter 7:
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Heyyyy... it's not a threat, it's just Scripture! You can't tread on my religious rights, y'know!

Don't forget...God hates shrimp! After all, it's in the Bible. The Bible says that both homosexuality and shrimp-eating are an "abomination". Here is the bit in Leviticus 11:10 where God hates shrimp: quote: And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you.
And, here is the bit in Leviticus 20:13 that the religious right uses to say that God hates gays: quote: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.
Same book of the Bible. Same condemnation. So, why aren't the socons and the religious right lobbying Harper to criminalize shrimp-eating and close down all Red Lobster restaurants? After all, it's in the Bible. No thinking allowed. Turn off your brain, start thumpin' the good book and plan to stack the next Conservative Party meeting in your riding. I believe the correct term is "to put a jihad on x". I'll use Team America as my grammatical source: "As quickly as they had come, the infidels were gone. It was on that day I put a jihad on them. And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too." quote: Prosecutor Hakan Roswall said that as long as the death threats are in the form of Biblical quotes there is nothing he can do
You'd think the actual intention of the law would overide such a stupid technicality as that. Methinks that the prosecutor isn't creative enough or not competent enough to be abe to fight this in court. [ 03 February 2006: Message edited by: Euhemeros ]
