Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure where to put this question, but I figured that most feminists are also not homophobic so here we go.

I just got a call from the Canadian Family Action Coalition asking me about same sex marriage. As soon as he said he was calling about that, I interjected, angrily said I support it, don't support his group, and to never call me again.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has gotten these calls and what exactly they are asking...if anyone , of course, could resist the urge to hang up immediately.

Oh how I'd love to get a phone call from the Canadian Family Action Coalition. I would verbally rip them a new one.

Yes, as soon as I hung up, I regretted not staying on the phone and debating him for a while. It was a gut reaction!

I got a call a couple of weeks ago from someone with "Family" in the name of the organization. I suspect it was the same one. It was a very cultured, cordial woman's voice -- who used my own name, rather than my husband's name which usually happens in random calling -- and all she said was, "I wanted to ask you if you're in favour of same-sex marriage."

"Yes, I am," said I. And that was it and she said thank you, goodbye.

I did feel personally chosen, however, as opposed to being randomly chosen. I have no way of proving that though.

I suspect it is part of the anticipation on the part of Christian groups to the vote Harper promised. They have been in Ottawa lobbying MPs so are likely also making calls to us. Perhaps the other side is doing that as well.

Gross. Like Stargazer, I certainly hope they call me!

BTW, I put this thread on the main page of rabble, as a highlighted thread.

I would guess... The script being used here is quite simple.

"Are you in favor of SSM"

-If Yes, hang up

-If No, provide contact information for that persons MLA along with instructions to go voice their opinion.

It sounds like they might be doing a simple survey to gauge support for SSM laws in anticipation of the debate being reopened.

Any group looking to contest something will do a support survey, I don't think there is anything particulary nefarious about this one.

Sigh...

Ok, I am not a right wing so-con. There are a few of us in Alberta you know. I just didn't see anything particularly unusual in the question.

Strangely enought, I have never received a call from anyone doing any kind of political survey, I did do one recently on mental health though.

I get tired of unsolicited calls, time to get an unlisted number

I'm not saying they are breaking the law by calling or anything, I just find them a particularly loathsome, prejudiced organization and I don't want another vote on the issue. I don't think it will pass and Harper knows that...but he's got to keep his damn promise to the right wing nuts.

While I don't know Alberta Guy's true affiliations, there are a few non neo-cons from AB...I am one, although I got the hell out of there and now live in TO! Everytime I go back is a reminder of why I don't want to live there anymore. Too bad I couldn't take the mountains and put them in Ontario...

Should have looked at AG's disgusting post on violence before giving him the benefit of the doubt. Won't make the same mistake next time.

To suggest that we make a concerted attack on violence in all of it forms rather than concentrate on just one is disgusting? I am afraid that I do not see your logic.

No. The reason I find it disgusting is that you wrote something in a pro-feminist forum that has no understanding of the root cause of violence against women - the fact that we still live in a sexist society.

Anyway, I am not going to feed your trolling habit any longer. Have a good day!

I would call that misinformed perhaps, but not disgusting.

Seems to me you were the one who cross posted this subject, while we are on the subject of trolling.
