I thought of putting this in Babble Banter, but in the spam age, I think it's actually a fairly serious topic relating to lots of things, privacy, 'ownership' of animals, etc.Not this dog's day: Owner's lark costs him $500 quote: It all went to the dogs for carpenter Kevin Strybos when the phone rang at his Aldergrove home. The local gas station was on the line to congratulate the winner of its monthly cash draw for $500: Mr. Jengels. The only snag was that Mr. Jengels is just over 15 centimetres tall and would rather eat a bone than cash a cheque. Strybos, who hates being bothered by telemarketers, had put his dog's name on the winning ticket. Now Mike Paz, the gas station's owner, is doggedly refusing to pay the prize money.

Update: SPCA lucks out over pooch's prize quote: ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – A little Fraser Valley dog, Mr. Jengels, will get the fame, but the SPCA will get his fortune. Gas station owner Mike Paz had refused to award a $500-cash prize to the miniature dachshund-pinscher cross whose name was on the winning entry form of a contest at his gas bar. Instead, Paz donated the canine's winnings to the B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. But he has agreed to hang a portrait of Mr. Jengels on the wall alongside previous winners.
