"We couldn't get answers from upper management"

Talks are still continuing.

There has never been a strike at Manitoba Hydro.

The workers have been without a contract since the end of May and the sides have been negotiating since November.

Manitoba Hydro reported a profit of $296 million for the nine months ended Dec. 31, 2005, compared with $51 million for the same nine-month period in 2004.

The higher profit resulted from higher sales, which were $1.48 billion in 2005, compared with $1.16 billion in 2004.

IBEW: To our surprise the Corporation’s negotiating team lacked preparation in the way of contact with their principals. Decision makers in the Corporation and Government could not be reached.

Talks soured quickly and our team dispersed with a feeling of disappointment, to say the least. We came to the table with decision makers, members from across the province and direction from our membership, prepared to finalize a contract and the Corporation did not.

IBEW 2034 Negotiations Update Summary

IBEW had an 85% strike mandate.
