Dr. Laura son linked to lurid Web page

Site contained violent, sex-oriented images one official called 'repulsive'

The soldier son of talk radio relationship counselor Laura Schlessinger is under investigation for a graphic personal Web page that one Army official has called "repulsive."

The MySpace page, publicly available until Friday when it disappeared from the Internet, included cartoon depictions of rape, murder, torture and child molestation; photographs of soldiers with guns in their mouths; a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee captioned "My Sweet Little Habib"; accounts of illicit drug use; and a blog entry headlined by a series of obscenities and racial epithets.. . .

. . ."Yes . . . F---ING Yes!!!" said one blog entry on the Schlessinger site. "I LOVE MY JOB, it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it . . . and some that don't."

Deryk Schlessinger joined the Army in 2004, telling a crowd of Santa Barbara, Calif., Army reservists gathered for an appearance by his mother that he resented the way Americans criticize the war without recognizing soldiers' sacrifices.

To be fair, great parents can have bad kids just as horrible parents can have great kids.

Let's not blame it on Laura, as civilized people did not blame Jean Chretien for his son's rape conviction.

What annoys me is that the whole "Support the Troop" gang like to paint all the soldiers as either patriotic, upstanding people or at worst, misguided kids who had no choice but to enlist because their lives were so confused from lack of moral guidance. Just check out a few US discussion boards and that's how the troops are depicted.

The fact is that there are alot of nasty, maybe borderline psychotic, individuals serving in the military (and probably more so with private contractors) who are like Dr. Laura's son. The thrill of killing is attractive and the propaganda that honours these terror wars only serves to embolden their violent inclinations. I am not surprised nor do I feel sorry for Dr. Laura. She raised her kid to hate the enemies of the US.

I was talking with a vietnam vet last week. Nice chap who said he knows he was brianwashed. Kept saying how pissed they where that they couldn't chase the little bastards across the border to cambodia. Apparently he spent 6 months in psych care before they would release him back to the states. He says he saw a lot of really terrible things done to friends of his. And he doesn't agree with the iraq situation.

I brought up how we in canada have been fighting in afghanistan and we don't really know why. His response was "Most times no one knows why, least of all those on the front lines"
I guess he must be one of those weak military types. But he still thinks the US should never have abondoned the draft. It is almost sureal to talk to someone who knows that nothing is getting done but the war must go on.

Stubbornness is often the most powerful "emotion". I'm not really surprised by your story.

To be fair on the other side, she tries to pass herself off as an expert on rearing children on her syndicated talk show...so it's relevant to her level of credibility.

Exactly my thought - no analogy with Chrétien.
