Forwarded message from ProChoice NB:

quote:
Dear Friends ... once again I am writing to ask for your help and support. There is some indication that the newly elected Federal Government is planning to address New Brunswick's refusal to pay for abortions performed at the Morgentaler Clinic.

The anti-choice forces are encouraging their members to write to Health Minister Tony Clement to urge him *not* to put any pressure on the N.B. government to change things.

We, of course, **want** the situation to change. It is important for Clement to also hear from pro-choice voices encouraging him to do the right thing and enforce the law in New Brunswick by having all abortions covered by Medicare whether in a hospital or the clinic.

I know you are busy people and while you are welcome to write your concerns, If you agree with the following letter, you can simply cut and paste and send it to the Minister with your signature. It will help send a strong message to the Minister that his actions are being watched!

The e-mail address for Tony Clement is: [email protected]

Or you can call him at 1-866-375-8669.

According to an article from LifeSite News (an anti-choice paper) Mr. Clement has pledged to return all calls.

DRAFT LETTER
------------

Hon. Tony Clement,
Minister of Health

I am writing as a supporter of Pro-Choice NB. I understand that you are preparing to address the continuing refusal of the Province of New Brunswick to pay for abortions performed at the Morgentaler Clinic and wish to indicate my support for having this procedure covered by Medicare.

The situation in New Brunswick is discriminatory and places undue hardship on women seeking abortion services. There is only one hospital providing abortions and the only other option available to women is the Morgentaler Clinic where they must cover the full cost of the abortion themselves.

NB is the only province in Canada (with the exception of PEI where no abortions services are available) that places this additional hardship on women.

I urge you to bring New Brunswick in line with the rest of the country. By doing so you will send a strong message to Canadians and the women of N.B. that you and your government stand behind a woman's right to control her reproductive future.

Sincerely,

(Your Name)
