What do you think of these people? Just to make it clear, I don't agree with them (I'm pro-choice) but can they still legitimately call themselfes feminists or not?

They are entitled to their opinions.

Mike, I've only done a quick skim of the site. If they are focused on giving women more options, on helping women who feel pressured to get an abortion but don't really want one, then that is great. Those women need and deserve help, and all resources are welcome.

I couldn't tell, from what I saw, whether they are actually campaigning to criminalize abortion. If so, I would condemn them.

The site also seems to me to have a pretty definite class character.

Looking more closely at their site, they have a slogan, "refuse to choose" (between women and children). They do seem to advocate making abortion illegal, though they also advocate changing society to make it more friendly towards women who have kids (e.g. better daycare etc). They also pay lip service towards other women's issues, though I'd be curious to know how much of their advocacy effort is directed towards these things. If they don't make a serious effort on these other matters, I'd condemn them as a sort of "Trojan horse" organization, otherwise I'd merely respectfully disagree with them. At this point I'm inclined to suspect the former, though I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt.

I think you're right about their "class character" as well.

I agree with comments posted above, with special attention to the phrase "refuse to choose" on the site. This wording makes me think this organization is anti-choice. All the rest of the stuff I saw on it seems pretty good, though. It may be a "safe" way for American women to identify as feminists.

HERE'S a link to the IMDB page for the woman pictured on the front. From her bio:

quote:
Honorary Chair of Feminists for Life — a nonsectarian, nonpartisan, grassroots organization established 30 years ago which opposes all forms of cruelty directed at women including domestic violence, child abuse, infanticide, and abortion —the cause to which Patricia Heaton was most passionately drawn.
