It seems that someone over "there" felt compelled to ressurect an old thread about "Why didn't Olivia take Jack's name when they married, ....... how can he expect the nation to follow him when even his own wife/comfort woman won't ? Well, anyone who "visits "over there" now and then knows the drill.

The more politically prudent had thought they had put the thread to bed well before the election, but as I say, someone dredged it up today.

When all was said and donel turns out that Stephen Harper's Laureen did not take his name; nor did any political leaders' spouses in recent memory save for Alene Cretien and Sheila Martin (sp)

Great deal of embarrassed gnashing of teeth going on over there now.

My only regret is that Pity Sing didn't get in on it, but of course she is faar too busy staking out Svend's place for her next brilliant comment.

Yes, and the same question was asked about Maureen McTeer, Joe Clark's wife, in about 1973.

But that was then, and this is now.

Yes, Jrff, the Joe - Maureen thing came up over there as well; added to the chagrin. You say that was then ...., I would say that was just a litle bit after the start of now.

Anyway, the whole topic sure ended up causing a whole lot of discombobulation "over yonder".

Because marriage is supposed to be a partnership, I suppose.

I don't understand what the fuss is about name changes. I did it in my first marriage, which was a big pain, and didn't in the second, which has worked out just fine. Then again, I don't like to be led.

I think referring to Olivia as a "comfort woman" is disgusting.

That dreadful woman. She is so dreadful that Heywood refuses to believe she is a woman.
