The company I work for is implementing cost cutting measures. Wage reduction, benefit loss, and longer hours. We are going to lose a few dollars, no benefits, and going from 40 hours to 44 hours. It has been suggested that we work the extra 4 hours for free. Maybe a 4 hour Saturday. Life is great as long as you don't weaken. It this the future of labour in Ontario?

i'm no expert on labour laws, but this doesn't sound legal to me, sub. if you don't have a union, check with an employment standards office on the legality of this.

unless, you're trying to say that your hourly wage will be reduced. so, in effect, you're working an extra 4 hours, but not making any more money than you used to. now, that is probably legal.
