The federal NDP website didn't show anyone nominated yet or even the scheduling of a nomination meeting. They haven't just decided to write Audrey's old riding off, have they?

There are 3 Yukon NDP contesting candidates and who will win will be decided tonight.

They are:

Peter Becker, a former Olympian from Germany who moved to Canada after competing in the 1976 Games in Montreal, has been involved in various tourism-related and non-governmental organizations.

Robin Reid-Fraser, 19, said she wants to get more young people interested in politics.

Ken Bolton, a long-time political adviser, said he wants to focus on issues important to the North, such as climate change.

Thanks for the information.

Are 19-year-olds eligible to serve in the Canadian Parliament, or is Reid-Fraser's candidacy mainly symbolic?

I think as long as you're old enough to vote (18) you're old enough to serve in parliament.

The youngest Member of Parliament ever elected in Canada was Claude-André Lachance, who was elected at 20 years and 3 months of age.

The NDP is the only party that has yet to choose a candidate in the Yukon.

If you are 18 on election day. So it's actually possible for a candidate to still be 17 when nominated.

I know this isn't a very busy forum...lord knows...but this is about the federal election, and all the other riding gossip is being discussed in the Canadian Politics forum. I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to move this there.
