Police open fire on Nepal lawyers: quote: Police in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, have opened fire on a group of lawyers protesting against King Gyanendra. Three of the lawyers have been wounded - one of them in the head - and at least seven of the group are said to have been arrested. Security forces across Nepal have killed four protesters so far amid a wave of demonstrations by opponents of the king, who seized power in 2005.
Police arrest 30 agitating lawyers in Nepal: quote: "This is a peaceful demonstration and if the police try to stop us, we will resist," said Madhav Banskota, General Secretary of the Nepal Bar Association before being arrested.Hundreds of opposition leaders, lawyers, and activists have been arrested in a wave of demonstrations since the start of a week-old protest drive organised by opposition parties and backed by Maoist rebels. Around 100 lawyers protested outside the Supreme Court, chanting anti-king slogans, before being bundled into waiting police vans.
