Time runs out for WTO quote: Blame game starts as global trade talks fail to bring vital breakthrough By Frances Williams in Geneva Published: November 10 2005 02:00 | Last updated: November 10 2005 02:00The European Union and Brazil yesterday blamed each other for lack of progress in global trade talks as World Trade Organisation members acknowledged they no longer had the time to complete an interim pact this year. Putting a brave face on their failure to produce a breakthrough in three days of high-level talks in London and Geneva, ministers from the US, EU, Brazil and other leading trading nations said they remained committed to concluding an ambitious Doha round accord by the end of 2006 and would work for the best possible deal at next month's WTO ministerial meeting in Hong Kong.
The tone of coverage appears to be resigned to failure. Earlier this week the Financial Times published a letter from dozens of CEO's of major multinationals pleading for agreement on the next round of the WTO. Well boo hoo for them.

They may make a breakthrough yet.edited to add: Today's Globe headline: "Martin says he will not be 'dictated to' by U.S." Maybe true. He'll be 'dictated to' by the WTO. [ 14 December 2005: Message edited by: neutrino ]

Hi Fidel, When I said 'maybe true,' that was targeted at those who would actually believe the rhetoric. Fidel and others like him, I'd love to see some of your timely input on this other thread: Reports from HK on WTO events [ 15 December 2005: Message edited by: neutrino ]
