As per the subject line I have started a new thread to allow the supporters of FARC to declare themselves as such.

All those who support Drug Trafficking, Murder, Extortion and Kidnapping Please use this thread to explain your affliction. And believe me-'affliction' is the proper term.

Please Note-discussion of AUC and it's nasty ilk as a 'red herring' is expected.

The floor is open-Please feel free to blunder and bluster about situations you don't understand.

Meanwhile in Peru...The plot thickens...

I don't know if this has been mentioned here in the past, but during the trials against Vladimir Montesinos, former special advisor to ex-Peruvian Prez Fujimori (both fiercely rightwing) and general militant bad-ass who really ran the country, it has been revealed that he also worked as an intermediary selling Jordanian arms to FARC (left-wing) on behalf of....the CIA???

Just to show further that the issue is very complex, and not a left v right thing. It's a mini-war, and each side just wants/needs to win.

One of the tricks of Colombia's death squads is to qualify everyone who criticizes them as being a FARC supporter.

It is pretty boring that SS, above, thinks the same tactic is intellectually respectable.

He thinks that AUC (which is the acronym for Colombia's paramilitary) is irrelevant to such things as drug smuggling, yet the leader of AUC, Carlos Castanyo has been indicted in the US for drug smuggling, at the behest of the US Southern Command.

http://ciponline.org/colombia/02100401.htm

So why is that irrelevant? And why does criticism of Colombia's unjust society mean support for FARC?

You obviously ignored the result of the US election, Jeff. In any conflict, there are only two sides, US (good and light) versus THEM (evil and dark). Once someone in power declares that the ruling Colombian elites are US, nobody is allowed to criticize them over anything. Sorry buddy, but those are the new rules.

For a complete guide to the new rules, please pick up any Orwell novel. Try not to read it for context, but rather read it literally, as the Bushites seem to.

You mean the gang of idiots that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a satellite map and binoculars in broad daylight?

There's a reason I think there should be a pox on both their bouses, and one of them is because both sides in the battle have managed to make a dog's breakfast of what should have been simple for either side.

The other, of course, is that they've made hash of a country for the last 20 years while the rest of South America has been getting its act together.

This Magazine did a piece on Columbia in which it was noted that there are more trade union activists murdered (by paramilitaries and friends of the transnationals) in Columbia than in the rest of the world combined. No wonder there is a guerilla movement.

Which magazine, N ?. I'd like to know because it sounds about right. I, for one, am not under the illusion that Colombia is a show case for human rights.

Heh. Reminds me of the day I was browsing the magazine stand, and the Scientific American had a cover piece about hypnosis, with a big caption saying "You will buy this magazine". It happened that This Magazine was nearby and had some interesting stuff that issue--so I bought This Magazine! I must be very suggestible.

Yeah, I did. Apparently t'is the season for idiots who write misogynistic e-mails using their real names and e-mail addresses. Do they not know that google is a wonderful thing?

Anyhow, another charming epistle from someone who feels I have been too heavy-handed in censoring people on babble. Just so that he doesn't feel censored any longer:

Your website is a piece of shit. The left will never be in power with the assistance of you smug-pat yourself on the back because you wallow in your own crapulence types. As scary as the extreme conservative right wing is, the fascist militant left wing (aka you) is just as bad. I feel bad for Moderator Michelle because she must have been treated poorly in her life to be the holier than thou nazi cunt she acts like today and gets off on (must be the only power she has to get off on it so much). Hitler didnt even condone as much censorship as she does! If you dont like what I have to say.. then fuck you. If you cant treat people with respect you dont get it back you fat "even more ignorant than rednecks" bitches - im using this language because you cant censor this fuckers!!! Stick your fingers in your ear and hum and be just as isloated and irrelevant as you currently are in real political discourse. Babble is like the Sun Newspapers.. good to read for a laugh and then it becomes ass wiping material. Fuck you losers!!!

The last time oldgoat banned me, I was away from my computer for the evening and didn't even notice. (I think it was on my birthday!)
