Something is not quite right here...Misconduct #1: Being a primary architect of an invasion justified by lies, a brutal war of aggression that has killed hundreds of thousands of people and caused widespread suffering, has virtually destroyed a whole country, brought terrorism to that country (frequent bombings, kidnappings and murders), sparked a civil war, inflamed extremism around the world resulting in a sharp increase in terrorism -- all at the cost of hundreds of billions of tax dollars. Penalty for this: A war crimes trial leading to life in prison, or hanging alongside Saddam Hussein? Nope: a cushy job heading up the World Bank. Misconduct #2: Arranging a big pay raise for his "special friend" while in his cushy World Bank job. Penalty: Being forced to resign his position. [ 18 May 2007: Message edited by: Albireo ]

Wolfowitz's decline reminds of how in the 1990s Dr. Jean Paul Wallot, National Archivist of Canada was quietly removed from his position after years of reporting that his girlfriend/partner was his personal secretary and that together they travelled the world on the Canadian coin. Still, it took years before he was asked to step down. Sheila Copps, who was hailed as an example of grass-roots politicking, was MInister of Heritage at the time. She was just as reluctant as others, at first, to act to bring Deputy Minister Wallot into line. After being removed from his post, Dr. Wallot was asked to serve as head of the Royal Society of Canada. Even in Canada The Good these things happen.
