Tehran — The head of Iran's security council said Tuesday that the re-election of U.S. President Bush was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbours al-Qaeda terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions.

And if it weren't for all this death and destruction caused by Shrub junior and company, I'd endorse them, too. They're driving the rest of the world further to the left.

The endorsements by Putin and now Iran are interesting in light of how up-in-arms Ohio voters seem to be getting about that Guardian initiative to dialogue with them about their next choice of president.

Apparently it's evil and BAD for citizens of trusted allies to talk to Americans about their vote, but Iranian clerics for Bush doesn't get the American voter all freaked out.

After four more years of Bush, Amerikan society may start to resemble Iran.

Why would the Iranian government endorse a man who wants to bomb Iran back into the stone age?

Good question, CMOT. I'm wondering if it's a "reverse psychology" thing, myself.

I think they are serious. They see in Bush a mirror image. Religious fucking wackos dedicated to bringing about armageddeon. The war of civilizations. Holy war.

Let's see ... Iran's leaders tell the people that they are allied with God, but so do the Republicon's tell bible belter's the same thing.

Ayatolla Khamenei promises the people social justice for all, but conflict with its neighbors means that social democracy must be put on hold indefinitely. The Republicrats tend to tell American's something similar about colonialism being needed now, but just wait until capitalism spreads prosperity to its enemies and despotic, third world friendlies.

You're right, there are similarities. Both Allah and God are little more than cheer leaders for Tehran and Washington.

To be strictly accurate they did not support Bush. They actually said "It makes no difference for us which of the two parties wins the elections," .

The Associated Press article carefully omits that statement.

I just read the absolutely fascinating Takeover in Tehran written by Massoumeh Ebtekar, one of the US embassy hostage takers and a Iranian government official. She describes the ways in which the Iranian fundamentalists were both very pragmatic about exploiting cntradictions of US politics. She says there's no difference between the Republicans and Democrats and were glad to bring Carter down. In many ways Kerry's multilateralism and freetrading is more a threat to the Iranian leadership than a hopeless invasion.

Bush is a social conservative AND has done a wonderful job of uniting radical Islam.

Social conservative? I think he goes beyond that. I think he thinks he is the one social conservative pray for. More discerning christians might call him the false prophet.
