"The Mayor has been besieged with questions about allegations several key players at the Municipal Licensing and Standards Department failed to post jobs and gave them to friends and relatives instead."

Family Affairs

"But when CityNews asked the municipal workers who keep the wheels of government turning behind the scenes for their examples of cronyism and nepotism at City Hall, we were inundated with emailed examples."

Everything's Relative

Those links don't work. But I think this thread is about the same situation anyhow, isn't it?

Michelle:

The links work now. The other thread (Pam Cobourn admits to sexual relationship) is about working women and office romances.

Actually, no it's not. It's about Pam Coburn, one of the people who were suspended with pay, over this whole scandal. Her office romance (and the fact that the guy she was sleeping with got a job that way) was one example of the nepotism happening at Toronto City Hall.

Well, ok, this is just my impression, but whenever I go to 112 Elizabeth (Toronto business Licensing) I get the distinct feeling that I walked into the home for "retired strippers".

My guess is that since all adult entertainment licenses are granted at this office, they have a kind of advantage when it comes to "an in" with the management.

Not that I have a problem with the people who use this service most having first dibs at working there. If you're job is to provide licenses to certain businesses, then it would follow that being a former "licensed business" would count as a qualification for the position.

Hee. Half-tempted to start a thread about "working women and their office romances."

OH MY GOSH!?
That happens? I never would have thought!

Well, i guess that explains why people with relatives who work for the city tend to have an esaier time getting a job with it....
