k.d. lang's weight at the Juno Awards draws criticism

quote:
Page Six has something to say about the "heavy burden" k.d. lang is carrying around, referring to her weight. "It's been a long time since k.d. lang was k.d. lean, but many people seemed stunned by exactly how big the star has gotten," said Shinan Govani from the Juno Awards in Winnipeg where lang stole the show even though she entirely avoided away the red carpet and the after parties. Calling her "Canada's most famous lesbian," Govani went on to quote a music insider as saying, "She's always been shy. But she seems even shyer now, now that she's fat." Lang did acknowledge in a recent interview in Britain's The Independent that she had given up trying to be glamorous. "I guess I didn't have the drive or the interest to stay in the game," she reflects. "It takes a lot of money and work to stay fabulous."

[Note: Shinan Govani is apparently some hack working for the Nazi Pest]

New York Post

But really, WTF does her weight have to do with her singing? Cripes, is it an issue when Luther Vandross or someone like that packs on a few pounds? Lay off kd's weight! She sounds great, and that's the main thing!

Besides, who says she's not fabulous as she is?

As soon as I saw Govani's name, Heph, I was going to warn you that this is par for the course. Bitchy. Entirely dismissable.

I love k.d., and isn't it a relief to hear finally from one of the stars that she isn't spending half her life with her personal trainer any more? It is to me.

I've known Shinan since childhood. I first raised my eye-brow when he started signing his writing "al-Sinan". I don't know if it was to sound exotic, or to sell himself as a minority. Of course, when The Post signed him he quickly dropped the "al-" perhaps out of fear of being linked to the Middle East. There's integrity for ya!

He gets a lot of admiration from people around him for being a Toronto boy who gets his writing run in "big time" publications. I think he's a sell out, making a fine waste of his talent.

I'm completely scandalized by that article. I mean, it is the New York Post, which Public Enemy can tell you is little more than a cheap tabloid in newspaper costume, but I'm still taken aback.

"Corpulent crooner," they say. They really said that. It's shameful.

I mean never mind what it has to do with her singing, even if she was a nobody selected randomly from the street with no apparent talent it wouldn't be acceptable to ridicule her so viciously.

In protest I shall stop eating Post cereal.
