The repair technicians, members of IBEW 213, have been locked out from their Burnaby workplace for 7 weeks now. The BC Fed and the Alberta Fed have both backed a boycott of Sears until this matter is resolved.

Sears has always been difficult to deal with, but this latest dispute is nothing more then union-busting.

Any links? I'd be interested in reading up on this, and perhaps sending an e-mail to Sears telling them I won't be doing any holiday shopping there, if I can get a handle on the issues in dispute.

Actually, here's one, but it's short on information on the dispute or on what they want us to do in solidarity (besides not shopping at Sears).

I guess we could write to [email protected] and tell them we're concerned about this lockout, and that if they are locking out their workers over the holidays, then we'll ensure that none of our gift-buying dollars go to Sears over the holidays.

BCGEU is supportive too.

I just wrote an e-mail to [email protected]:

quote:
To Whom It May Concern:

I was dismayed to learn today about your company’s lockout of members of IBEW 213 in your British Columbia stores.

I have a Sears right around the corner from my workplace (at the Eaton Centre in Toronto) and I usually do some of my holiday shopping there. But as a unionized worker myself, I expect any place that receives my hard-earned money to treat their own hard-working employees with respect.

I suggest that you get to the table with IBEW 213 and make a reasonable offer, and end this lockout. No wage increases, decreased vacation time, and unpaid overtime is not a reasonable offer. If you plan to lock out your workers over the holidays, I’m certainly not going to spend my holiday shopping money at your store.

Sincerely, etc.

I searched around, but can't find anything comprehensive. I'll email a friend with 213 and ask him to consider posting.
