Is there a word for a scientific study that confirms the blatantly obvious?

... and while we're on the subject, why does a "blouse" cost 300% more to dry clean than a "shirt"?

My friend Dave and I were comparing what we pay for hair cuts. I have a short style as does he. He pays $15 while I am expected to pay anywhere from $35 to $60 bucks.

I have heard the price difference in clothing and hair styles is based on the fact that women's clothes and hair styles CHANGE more frequently requiring new designs and patterns and lessons for the stylist. Anyway, I have found a great stylist that only charges me $15. She does a great job and it leaves me lots of room to tip.

As for the mechanics, the best way to protect yourself is to actually learn something about cars. I have had great luck with mechanics. Mostly because I've weeded out the bad ones over time but also because I can usually have the problem diagnosed by me before I pay for someone to fix it. It isn't rocket science.

Many studies have been conducted about this phenomenon. http://www.womenandmoneyinc.com/publications/c28c.html A Canadian article from Lethbridge: Gender pricing puts wedge between financial equality

http://www.wa-now.org/pp/gender_pricing.html A US study (Washington State) on this phenomenon.

Many of the complaints concern dry cleaning: http://tampabayonline.net/women/wstdiscr.htm#gndrprice

I agree that for repairs (car, bicycle or home) at least enough knowledge to sound as if you know what your are talking about can be a help.
