I have heard that there is a move to organize around the upcoming Federal election by a number of National Women's groups- they will have a website up soon, update the Shocking Pink paper and focus on a national women vote campaign. The discussion of the void left where NAC used to be is a larger discission. I believe that any discussion of re-building a National Women's organization needs to address how we organize within a feminist anti-racist anti-oppression framework locally, provincially & nationally. This requires structural and systemic change within women's organizing and organizations. There has been innovative exciting work globally by women and we could learn alot by looking at what has been done in other countries as we look to the future.

I will find out soon and post the information. I believe that NAWL is part of the organizing group.

My understanding is that the Coalition for Women's Equality (CWE)is working on this. CWE is comprised of representatives from NAWL, FAFIA, Womenspace, CRIAW, MediaWatch, YWCA, FFQ, NAC, NOIVMWC

The site hasn't been launched yet but the URL is http://www.canadaelection.net

DAWN Ontario launched our Election 2004 Women's Issues and Organizing site a few months ago and we've been building the site with content collected to date. URL for our Women's Issues page is http://dawn.thot.net/election2004/issues.htm

Other URLs (no public link to this page)
NDP Candidates Across Canada (and links to their websites)

Gender based analysis of the federal party policy platforms is now available on the Vote for Equality campaign site.

Maybe I am being too simplistic, but I wonder why we are not questioning the fact that to support a family and still save money for retirement , both fathers and mothers must work their entire lives. Children are deposited in daycare and then school to fend for themselves while their parents are continually working to survive in the global economy.

It seems as if our society has regressed at the expense of family. I remember studying that in post-war Russia, women had to work in factories while their infants were cared for in nurseries, all because of high soldier casualties in WWII - not enough men. Now we in Canada seem to be forced into that same situation - not enough money with a single wage earner. I fear it will only get worse at the expense of everybody.

Surely this situation is not in the interest of women at large.
