google.cn produced 100 fewer hits for the search term "Iraqgate" than did google.ca "Fascism in America" produced the same number of results for both google-China and Google-Canada, which is a little more reassuring. "Jack Layton" NDP produced 4000 more hits with Google-China. "Free the Cuban Five" gives 200 more hits in China 4 million fewer hits for the term "beer" with Google-China. Okay that's leaning toward repression. http://www.google.ae/ makes you type right to left, which is just crazy to me. [ 20 March 2007: Message edited by: Fidel ]

It seems the South Koreans like banning web sites as well: South Korea blocks pro-North websites quote: South Korea said Monday it would block 32 websites that it deems too sympathetic to North Korea as part of a crackdown intended to protect South Koreans from communist influences.“These sites should be blocked because they admire Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and they give false information on North Korea,” said a spokesman for the Korea Internet Safety Commission, the Seoul agency that reviews “unhealthy” sites. “Aren’t these the obvious reasons to be blocked?” The blocked sites include the North’s state-run Korea Central News Agency and the homepages of Kim Il-sung University and a North Korean bank. They bring the total number of sites blocked by South Korean authorities to 73. South Koreans trying to look at any of them see a warning from the National Police Agency and the Korea Internet Safety Commission advising them that the site has been blocked because it contravenes the National Security Law. Under that law, anyone who praises, encourages or co-operates with anti-state groups or endangers national security and democracy faces up to seven years in prison.
