Zinnnngggg!

The problem I see with this is the writing styles. Dersh writes in preaching to the choir style - simplisted, emotional overwrought prose intended not for critical thinking but for Pavolovian slobber. Chomsky is ever Chomsky - a studious airing of the facts. You have to work sometimes to read Chomsky, at least to pay close attention. Not so Dersh. And we know the squeaky wheels not only get the grease but the media attention.

Interesting observation there, AE. I would add that Chomsky is educating readers about the actual sequence of events in the context of a media barrage, including Dershowitz, of "the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Shalit by Palestinian terrorists", etc. A person only has to read one or two such exposes to become familliar with the pattern and be able to do some disentangling themselves. Chomsky is helping people to develop what Ernest Hemingway called their "bullshit detector". It's a useful service.

...

Chomsky makes reference to the Israeli kidnapping of two Gaza civilians, the Muamar brothers, the day before Israeli Corporal Gilad Shalit was captured. It's important to disentangle and expose the Israeli fig leaf of justification for their continuing atrocities in Gaza, just as it is important to outline the hundreds of Lebanese captured, tortured [Israel’s prison/torture chamber Camp 1391, for example.] or just simply assassinated by Israel BEFORE Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers recently. It's important because it exposes the cynical fraud of Israel's subsequent escalating atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon.

quote:
Chomsky: ... the capture of Shalit continued to arouse great attention, indignation, and support for the murderous Israeli retaliation, while the Muamar brothers received a few dismissive mentions in news reports the next day, and then virtually disappeared.

Supplemental: the article outlines the beginnings of Chomsky's "exchange of pleasantries" with Dershowitz back in 1973 (to use an ice hockey expression) and explains, in part, the personal jihad that Dershowitz has been carrying out against Chomsky.

And here, Norman Finkelstein asks the question, "Should Alan Dershowitz Target Himself for Assassination?"

Of course he should. But, in keeping with his style, he'll probably miss.

Defending the Israeli war against Lebanon/Hezbollah is simple.

Since Hezbollah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers, the Biblical principle applies:

"10,000 eyes for an eye, 10,000 teeth for a tooth".
