Iceland officially resumed whaling Sunday as a government-commissioned ship left port in the early morning hours to kill 38 minke whales for scientific research.

The Sigurbjorg, commissioned by the Icelandic Marine Research Institute, is the first of three vessels to take part in the hunt, which will occur in August and September. The ships are taking a secret route so they won't be followed.
