As decided by the Globe and Mail.

quote:
The Globe and Mail selects the former NDP leader and retiring member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre, Ed Broadbent, as 2005's Nation Builder of the Year -- a man who stood up for principled civility in the face of the politics of contempt. Jan Wong profiles this rarest of creatures, the honest politician: So long, it's been good to know you

I just read it - excellent piece on Ed. I would agree, he is the best Prime Minister we never had.

Not to overlook Ed Broadbent's role after leaving politics (the first time) as first head of Droits et démocratie / Rights and Democracy:

I got to know him when that group and many others were taking part in the fight for refugee status on the basis of sexism, the claim by a young Saudi woman who had sought asylum in Montréal.
