What a shame that the flag-burning amendment was defeated by only one vote in the US Senate. This is a constant battle and our legislators should be ashamed for trying to amend the Constitution to prohibit flag burning. I'm pleased that the amendment was voted down but concerned that it was only voted down by a single vote.
Burning an American flag may very well upset many people. But, the defeat of this proposed amendment was a victory (however slim) for free speech.
Have Canadian politicians ever pushed for a similar law in Canada? Or, is flag burning only a hot-button issue down here?
