But you should nevertheless watch this, if you haven't already:

did you REALLY watch the whole thing? the arguement the film is trying to make mainly becomes evident if you watch all of it, especially the second half.

I posted this here because I thought one could talk about this subject in an honest way.

You say "right wing drivel".

Calling it that takes away the legitimacy of the film; it is self-evident that this is what you want to reach by posting a reply like this.

In order to REALLY attack the legitimacy of the film however, why don't you tell me what the SPECIFIC issues of the film were, that bothered you, instead of participating in labelling (which is of course far easier)?

No I didn't. I went to the film's own website to find out more about it.

Relentless

Under the heading "about the fim" and the "the making of". It ends with this "to do" list (remember this is from the "film's" OWN web-shite:

quote:
Want to get more involved in pro-Israel activism? Here's 10 ideas:

1. Recruit people to "Relentless." Get the film into your synagogue or organization, and show the film to friends and family.

2. Join HonestReporting.com and protest bias in the media. Choose one newspaper to monitor on a daily basis.

3. Stay current on the truth. Get clear on what is really happening in the Israel. Read the Jerusalem Post,

4. See how the Arab media presents Mideast events. Palestinian Media Watch

5. Speak out. The next time you hear someone put down Israel, don't wonder to yourself, "What is anyone going to do about it." Be a roving ambassador for Israel by explaining the facts to everyone you meet

6. Send letters and show "Relentless" to politicians. Your views as a citizen are important to your elected representatives. Write a short, personal email with a subject line like: "Thank you for standing with Israel."

7. Become a stronger Jew. Jewish response to adversary has always been enhancing our Jewish pride.

8. Help victims of terror and their families. Support organizations like www.all4israel.org and www.kobymandell.org

9. Travel to Israel.

10. Fly the Israeli flag. Put an Israeli flag in front of your home, church, etc. Let everyone know that you are proud of Israel. Put an "I Support Israel" bumper sticker on your car. Wear a combined American/Israeli flag pin on your lapel.

The writer of this propaganda piece is strikingly missing from the web-shite (the rumour on the web is it's Alan Dershovitz: a major right winger and opponent of Noam Chomsky - whom I immensely respect).

The only info given about the film's origins are as follows (again from the same web-shite):

quote:
From humble beginnings as a class taught by Raphael Shore - it grew to an international seminar. As more people across the globe supported the project, the idea to make the film "Relentless" was born. The film is not the end result, but rather an important set in getting the truth to the public at large.

Being a curious individual I googled his name. Lo and behold the fourth hit was this gem from the Christian Heritage Party:
You must see Obsession

quote:
Janet and I attended the Vancouver “Stand with Israel” rally July 31. Ottawa’s representative, Abbotsford MP Ed Fast, twice asserted his government’s belief in Israel’s right to defend itself—which, of course, is the right thing to say.

But twice he also called on Israel to “use restraint.” In that, Mr. Fast was very, very wrong.

Israel doesn’t need “friends” begging them to use “restraint” in responding to such aggression!

The day of the “Stand with Israel” rally, we also watched Raphael Shore’s 78-minute video Obsession: What the War on Terror is Really About.

1 – The global jihad now has agents and ‘sleeper cells’ in every First World nation—including Canada.

2 – There has been, since the 1930s, a strong link between the Nazis and the jihadis: the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem in the 1930s and 1940s, Amin al-Husseini, was an ardent admirer of Hitler.

3 – The jihad targets the affluent West just as much as it targets Israel.

“Restraint” in such a situation is suicidal.

But Shore says he produced Obsession—a documentary with footage of speeches by radical jihadi clerics and leaders, along with commentary by experts who have studied their culture and reaction on the ‘Muslim street’—because the vast majority of people in the West still do not understand that we are in a battle that has been raging for a quarter of a century.

He told Western Standard contributing editor Terry O’Neill: “Victory in a war of this nature depends entirely on the will of the people. It’s not dependent on who has the mightier machines."

“If the nations of the West are willing to fight, then they can win. If they are unwilling to fight, then they will slowly crumble… Public opinion is critical.”

winnie the troll states:

You're right on that one, so I will rephrase it:

Next time I want to waste time on racist propaganda I'll read the Fascist Post or the Western Standard.

Sorry, winnie you've outed. Better find another place to fulfill your 10 "ideas". I'm sure there's a Christian Heritage Party meeting out there that still needs to see it.

do you know what ad hominem means? if not, i would recommend to you:

McInery, D. Q. (2005). Being logical: A guide to good thinking. New York: RandomHouse.

Congrats to your victory!

Why not watch it and comment on actual content (which consists to a large degree of original TV footage) ??

The title of this thread is absolutely useless for figuring out what the thread is about. And now that I read the thread, I see it's right-wing, pro-war propaganda.

Both good reasons to close it. I get enough of this bullshit in my spam folder from the Canadian Coalition for Democracies.
