A congressional candidate is defending his speech to a group celebrating the anniversary of Adolf Hitler's birth, saying he appeared simply because he was asked.

Tony Zirkle, who is seeking the Republican nomination in Indiana's 2nd District, stood in front of a painting of Hitler, next to people wearing swastika armbands and with a swastika flag in the background for the speech to the American National Socialist Workers Party in Chicago on Sunday.

"I'll speak before any group that invites me," Zirkle said Monday. "I've spoken on an African-American radio station in Atlanta."

The 2nd Congressional District includes a large portion of north central Indiana spanning from South Bend to Kokomo. It includes Pine and Jackson Townships in Porter County and parts of Washington Township, which includes the eastern edges of the Valparaiso.

I love how he compares speaking on an "African-American Radio Station" to speaking at a Nazi celebration of Hitler's birthday!

I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but this is so outrageous that I can't help it! What a nut!

Zirkle compared his speech to other politicians appearing at Bob Jones University.

Well, at least that's a more appropriate comparison than the former one!

I'm with you, that was unbelievable.

It is amazing when the Onion appears tame compared to reality.

I think I once heard laughter is an evolutionary adaptation to help us cope with life. Like seriously, what if someone were to walk on a banana peel and hurt themselves, would you laugh or feel bad for them

Sorry it's FAUX, but here goes...

quote:
Zirkle, who is seeking the GOP nomination for the state’s 2nd Congressional District, believes — among other things — that whites are victims of a "genocide," that the races should be segregated into different states and that pornography is a Jewish plot against women.

And in the first article, he says that he went to the Nazi celebration so that he could talk about "the targeting of young white women for pornography and prostitution".

And he's a personal injury lawyer! Oh god, it never ends! What else!?

I had to ask.

quote:
When asked if he was a Nazi or sympathized with Nazis or white supremacists, Zirkle replied he didn't know enough about the group to either favor it or oppose it.

"This is just a great opportunity for me to witness," he said, referring to his message and his Christian belief.

He also told WIMS radio in Michigan City that he didn't believe the event he attended included people necessarily of the Nazi mindset, pointing out the name isn't Nazi, but Nationalist Socialist Workers Party.

He doesn't know enough about "the group" to either favour it or oppose it!

And his wife was Jewish and converted to Christianity! And he doesn't know anything about THE NAZIS!?

Holy god.

What do you think are the odds that he pays for prostitutes or taps his foot in public bathroom stalls?

Well, I was being kind of tongue-in-cheek about the personal injury lawyer thing.

It's like the guy is a parody of a Republican!

In fairness, any American can register as a voter in either party, and any member of a party can put themselves up as a candidate in a primary. Both mainline parties attract wingnut candidates in primaries.

But this one does seem to take the cake.

I wonder about the WIFE?

"Honey, they are nice, friendly people with good moral values. Yeah, I know they plan to send you to a death camp and gas you, but it is nothing personal..."

How nuts can Republicans in this district be? I'm assuming there's a more mainstream candidate who'll win the primary - I hope.
