Not sure what you mean exactly when you say 'brown' people, but there's definitely a sizable amount if you just take a quick look...East Indian - 581 K Lebanese - 193 K Iranians - 73 K Pakistani - 54 K Arab - 47 K Sri Lankan - 45 K Punjabi - 28K Egyptian - 26 K Afghani - 22 K Turk - 15 K Syrian - 10 K Iraqi - 14 K Looks like over 1 million to me. 1/30th of the population isn't bad at all. The 'brown' people are only a minority vs the European groups, even China is less than 1 million. breakdown here [ 15 February 2007: Message edited by: quelar ]

I suspect that Al-Qaeda consider us to be much the same as the Americans.Sort of like the English and the Scots - they are all Brits and from a distance the same. And even if we have done nothing specific to annoy them they will probably get us one of these days. [ 15 February 2007: Message edited by: oreobw ]

Al Qaeda is a fictional organization, which is largely a creation of the American media. A Boogie Man to scare us.Bin Laden is very real. his primary beef is when other nations occupy Muslim land. for example when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, and he was working with & for the CIA. then when US troops occupied Saudi Arabia. most Muslims know that Canada is a peaceful land.

I seem to recall something about Bin Laden being still angry about the loss of Spain, it's hard to consider Spain Muslim land. (There's probably an opportunity for a good cartoon showing some guy in a turban carrying a bomb heading up the highway from Edmonton to Fort McM in -45c in a heavy snowstorm).

Meh, if you work in the Canadian oil and gas sector you probably saw this coming. About 1/4 of the US's oil supply is coordinated within Calgary... We're also on the same electrical grid. Calgary is actually a pretty strategical place to stirke if you're attacking the US outside of the US. quote: Al Qaeda is a fictional organization, which is largely a creation of the American media. I would not go too far... Ignoring or refusing that a threat could exist is what will ultimately see an attack. Reversely acting out of complete fear due to this is more dangerous than completely ignoring it ^^ In short acknowledging the threat exists is a must, but at the same time acting out of fear of this threat is the worst possible way to respond. Since post 9-11 times, I don't beleive it's possible for any AQ affiliated peoples to move freely around the globe, much less organize an attack... A vigillant intelligence agency should be able to prevent such an attack from an outside agency. We still risk more by alienating peoples with terror-phobia which often takes shape as islamophobia, and inspiring 'homegrown' attacks.

quote: The Saudi Arabian arm of the network posted the threat on Sawt al-Jihad (Voice of Jihad), the group's online magazine, according to the Search for International Terrorist Entities (SITE), a U.S. non-profit group that monitors militant websites. The website is known to be used by Islamist militants.
I love how they never give the actual website url or any information so you can find the original article and magazine for yourself. This kind of reporting means any comment made on some random website becomes a Serious Threat Against Democracy. If someone was "monitoring" this chat forum, for example, I am sure they could cherry-pick some inflammatory comments and come up with headlines like: CANADIAN SOCIALISTS CALL FOR ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT BUSH or... CANADIAN LEFT CALLS FOR MORE AL-QAEDA ATTACKS AGAINST WASHINGTON
