Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule[…] and over all the earth”[…] God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1: 26-27.

We saw last time that God made Adam and Eve the first family, and that he also gave them a task of dominion, to bring the world into submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. We also introduced how God embraces families in a gracious covenantal relationship so that families, not only individuals, are shown in Scripture to be in covenant with God. And what is important to notice is that Bible teaches that a family is made up of a man and a woman and any children who might issue from that union. Two lesbians or two homosexuals living together cannot therefore be part of God’s plan to redeem His world and to grant dominion to His covenant people, because same-sex unions are not a family and therefore cannot be in covenant with God as a family. Furthermore, the ethics of Scripture outlaw such same-sex unions whether formalised or not (1 Cor. 6:9). The reason genuine Christians have been appalled at the way the government has foolishly blurred the distinctions between biblical family structures and same-sex unions is not because we hate or fear homosexuals. Churches contain many people who have been lovingly rescued from homosexuality. Rather we see this trend in society as a movement away from God’s true intention for His world; where families live in covenant with Him and exercise dominion over His creation for His glory. Another way of putting this is to say that God’s purposes are not served when man ignores His instructions. We all suffer, and the progress of the world is setback until such time as God changes hearts and we as a nation reverse godless legislation. Let us pray that these trends will be reversed in our own day.

Genevieve, no church in Canada marries two people it doesn't wish to, and that includes same-sex couples. Canada leaves the sacrament to the church, but marriage is also a social institution that predates most religions here. We recognize the right to commit to a life partner, regardless of sex, colour or creed.

But what about:

quote:
Coatlique was first impregnated by an obsidian knife and gave birth to Coyolxanuhqui, goddess of the moon, and to a group of male offspring, who became the stars. Then one day Coatlique found a ball of feathers, which she tucked into her bosom. When she looked for it later, it was gone, at which time she realized that she was again pregnant. Her children, the moon and stars did not believe her story. Ashamed of their mother, they resolved to kill her. A goddess could only give birth once, to the original litter of divinity and no more. During the time that they were plotting her demise, Coatlique gave birth to the fiery god of war, Huitzilopochtli. With the help of a fire serpent, he destroyed his brothers and sister, murdering them in a rage. He beheaded Coyolxauhqui and threw her body into a deep gorge in a mountain, where it lies dismembered forever. The natural cosmos of the Indians was born of catastrophe. The heavens literally crumbled to pieces. The earth mother fell and was fertilized, while her children were torn apart by fratricide and then scattered and disjointed throughout the universe.

Why not?
quote:
Slowly, slowly as the kauri tree did Tanemahuta rise between the Earth and Sky. At first he strove with his arms to move them, but with no success. And so he paused, and the pause was an immense period of time. Then he placed his shoulders against the Earth, his mother, and his feet against the Sky. Soon, and yet not soon, for the time was vast, the Sky and Earth began to yield.

The parents of the children cried out and asked them, "why are you doing this crime, why do you wish to slay your parents' love?"

Great Tanemahuta thrust with all his strength, which was the strength of growth. Far beneath him he pressed the Earth. Far above he thrust the Sky, and held him there. The sinews that bound them were stretched, taunt. Tumatauenga sprang up and slashed at the bonds that bound his parents and the blood spilt read on the earth. Today this is the kokowai, the sacred red earth that was created when the first blood was spilt at the dawn of time. As soon as Tanemahuta work was finished the multitude of creatures were uncovered whom Ranginui and Papatuanuku had begotten, and who had never known light.
