'lance and flotsom together discover the utter distilled essence of productivity in the following discussion:

flotsom:

But don't overlook the fact that, as a THC deliverer, The Weed has grown all that much more efficient, hrmff.

It is a case of one getting more bhang for your buck, as it were, harumpff, hypothetically.

'lance:

quote:
But you're quite right, er, hypothetically. And I'm reliably informed that it's quite possible to buy the stuff for considerably less than $10 a gram, too. A classic case of deflation. Hypothetically.

As you can see, they have rapidly concluded how productivity growth can result in noninflationary tendencies in prices.

And therein, folks, lies the whole debate about productivity in economics.

Bravo!

Why, thanks, Doc.

And since I'm a practical, hands-on sort by inclination, I should announce that I expect soon to be doing more field research into this very topic. Stand by for more data.

It works like this...

If Charles would like one widget then he gets his one widget and he is out ten clamshells.

But if Charlie (note that it's Charlie now) is in the market for aprox. 500 widget then he gets his aprox. 500 widgets and it sets him back 2000 clamshells.

The price of one widget has just dropped from 10 clamshells to four clamshells.

Ah, just so. But see, the thing is this: I'm not sure what Charles, or Charlie, would be doing with just one widget. It certainly wouldn't do me, or anyone I know, much good. Widgets are best used in the company of at least one other person, yes? Thus two widgets would seem the practical minimum.

Now, 500 widgets I'd think a bit excessive. That's getting into wholesale quantities, and personally, I have no interest in getting into the widget business. But say I were to purchase, oh, 7 widgets for 60 clamshells, or even 14 widgets for 100 clamshells? This also looks practical.

Hypothetically, of course.

Hypothetically, of course.

I like the way you think.

Now, hypothetically, would we feel more productive after one drink or two?

Bartender, your finest Chardonnay, if you please.

Hypothetically, I'd be likely to break out in handcuffs.

And hypothetically, how are we feeling today?

I had forgot to take into account the collapse of the pot market with legalization. Now I agree there is something to the deflationary spiral theory!
