I see that they have the option to not have their fingerprints scanned, but that they're not communicating that very well to the students. That figures.

I'm not overly concerned with them doing this if they're giving parents a choice to have their kids use a passcode instead of a fingerprint scan. But I think the default should be the passcode, and the fingerprint scan with specific, written permission from the parents.

By grade 10, you'd think it wouldn't be so difficult for a kid to memorize a four digit passcode. Grade 2, I can see a kid maybe getting mixed up.

Yeah that was my thought too. The only thing that bothered me was the non disclosure to the parents about choice.

Your concern ought to go deeper than that, in my opinion. Use of fingerprints and/or retinal scans on children in a surveillance obsessed world should raise alarm bells. Who else has access to those finger prints and for how long will records be held? When these kids are young adults protesting the march of Italian fascism will they be tracked down and face rendition on the basis of fingerprints once used to innocently buy pizza slices?

Why don't they just implant RFID tags in our brains at birth and have done with it?

SHHHhhhhh!!!!!!

(down here, that's how they'll probably implant the social security numbers on people - they can't leave the hospital without filling out the forms now)
