what legality does Quebec have ?

Does this mean that some day, a court in Taiwan will make an issue that grants the independence to Quebec?

Can anyone please explain ?

Um...isn't that just a bit outside the jurisdiction of that court?

And in the end the judgement benefitted the CAA in Taiwan, and screwed the Canadian who was hurt.

Ah, our tax dollars at work.

For a former diplomat, the guy who wrote this article is pretty fucking stupid.

China is not "Marxist" by any stretch of the imagibne: Both socially and economically, Chen's policies run well to the left of the CCP's nowadays, as any labour union, homosexual, or religious individual would be able to attest.

And organistations that support Taiwan are not "stridently anti-communist" or whatever else.

I seem to recall Bill Blaikey opposing China's Taiwan policy a few years.

And I'd love to see the right-wing congressional records of Bernie Sanders, Nancy Pelosi, and Paull Wellstone.

The next person who talks about China and Taiwan as though we're still in the 1960s should never again be permitted to put pen to paper...lol

As for the decision, I don't see anything wrong with it at all: Last time I check, Taiwanese organisations are not liable under Canadian law for events that happen in Taiwan. (although Dumbya might take issue with that)

The people who think this is outside the court's jurisdiction are reading the decision too broadly.

One of the two parties before the court claimed that it was exempt from judgment pursuant to Canada's "State Immunities Act". That Act defines "state" based on certain specific criteria.

Taiwan apparently meets the criteria.

Therefore, the holding of the decision is:

"For the purposes of the State Immunities Act, Taiwan satisfies the definition of "state" set out in that Act."

That doesn't have any implications whatever for anyone's legal independence from anyone else.

Yeh I know Jeff House, I'm sorry, I was mostly just posting this to see what people had to say about it. I know that Quebec has no voice in what happens there, but like the article says, according to their definition, Taiwan should have independence. I'm not saying this should or should not be though.
