Shulamit Aloni, the Israeli Prize laureate who once served as Minister of Education under Yitzhak Rabin, writes: quote: A new order issued by the GOC Central command bans the conveyance of Palestinians in Israeli vehicles. Such a blatant violation of the right to travel joins the long list of human rights violations carried out by Israel in the [Occupied] Territories.Jewish self-righteousness is taken for granted among ourselves to such an extent that we fail to see what’s right in front of our eyes. It’s simply inconceivable that the ultimate victims, the Jews, can carry out evil deeds. Nevertheless, the state of Israel practises its own, quite violent, form of Apartheid with the native Palestinian population. The US Jewish Establishment’s onslaught on former President Jimmy Carter is based on him daring to tell the truth which is known to all: through its army, the government of Israel practises a brutal form of Apartheid in the territory it occupies. Its army has turned every Palestinian village and town into a fenced-in, or blocked-in, detention camp. All this is done in order to keep an eye on the population’s movements and to make its life difficult. Israel even imposes a total curfew whenever the settlers, who have illegally usurped the Palestinians’ land, celebrate their holidays or conduct their parades.
Indeed there is apartheid in Israel This article by Shulamit Aloni is from Yediot Acharonot, Israel’s largest circulating newspaper. It appeared in the Hebrew Ynet but not in the English-language Ynetnews. Translated by Sol Salbe, an Australian editor, whose comments are in square brackets. Hebrew original in Yediot Acharonot. Its about time to have a thread about Darfur. When one wants to talk about the embattled people of Darfur, its a sure bet that the best way to get those stalwart defenders of everything that is true and right in the world to coment on the situation there, is to start talking about Israeli Apartheid. In fact, no discussion of Darfur is ever begun by those staunch defenders of everything that is good and right in the world, unless we start talking about Israeli Apartheid. We know that when Rasmus cleverly posted this piece that he was really using this strategem to start talking about Darfur not the West Bank. So, I heard that the UN mission is investigating charges of rape by UN forces in Darfur, is it the case? [ 08 January 2007: Message edited by: Cueball ]

Ihope you are wrong about this because I remember if not starting threads on Darfur then participating in threads on darfur ranging from about events and rallies to other types of humanitarian actionsBut it is good time to start talking about the work that organizations like Save Darfur Canada Coalition, CASTS, STAND Canada, CJC, Kairos, Project Ploughshares, Warchild Canada, the Reform Judaism Movement, Project equity and the World Federalist Movement to name but a few. quote: Originally posted by Cueball: In fact, no discussion of Darfur is ever begun by those staunch defenders of everything that is good and right in the world, unless we start talking about Israeli Apartheid.[ 08 January 2007: Message edited by: Cueball ]

What does your experiment show? Other than the fact that it shows your research skills are somewhat needing of attention, it shows that there is very little sincere interest in the issue, except when it pops up as a convenient sop for absorbing negative reportage of Israeli Apartheid, of course the patern begins anew today with JPJ latest, posted after this, of course.
