The new provincial budget eliminates this tax.Apparently the opposition Tories believe that this will open all sorts of flood gates. Demands by special interest groups for lower taxes I guess, and what will the women want next? That special someone in my life suggested equal pay for equal work, but I'm sure she didn't mean it. Sadly I cannot find the article from the Winnipeg sun with the critics quotes on line, so here they are, "It is an election year and that's one way to attract the female vote, I guess I'm getting cynical about the choices this government makes." -Myrna Driedger, Tory Health critic- Ahhh crap here it is, the article.

That's ok - I followed the link and discovered that the author of said article is none other than my cousin. I think I have to go and write a letter now (and cc it to his grandmother - she'll give him what for!). Trasie

That's pretty funny, Trinitty. My father didn't even change DIAPERS much less go out tampon shopping for the other two females in the household! However, he did teach me how to cook breakfast, and he gave me "the talk" when I was a teenager. (Although I don't know whether "Just remember, Michelle, with the pill, if you skip one day you "blow" the whole month" is exactly the type of sex education that the Concerned Children's Advertisers have in mind...) Of course, everyone should just order keepers for their family, and there will be no tampon or pad shopping! Did I mention that The Keeper is, like, really REALLY amazing? I tried it and it was a dream. All of my misgivings and worries about this and that possible misadventure were blown out of the water. And no more pads or tampons to buy. Hopefully if this passes, The Keeper will also be tax exempt. Ha, Skdadl, yes, we will have to send Doc on a menstrual sensitivity training course. To pass the course, you have to use "tampon", "pad", "vagina", "flow", "menstrual fluid", "menstruation", "period", and "cramps" in a 5 minute conversation about menstruation. Write a 250 word essay about menstruation. Have women say those words in your hearing until you can hear them without blushing. etc. etc.

Not really, Trinitty. First, the way cameras are positioned, behind Judy the viewers can see the PC folks, and I haven't notice anything unusual going on there - but granted, I might have missed it if it wasn't huge. Paul Martin. It looked like the question awoke a schoolboy in him. You should have seen his face, half "I-am-professional-I-can-do-this", and half "hee-hee-hee". And the answer was terribly brief, he couldn't wait to go back to his seat. Behind him - a highschool locker room. Incidentally, all men. They snickered a bit more openly than Martin himself and looked at Judy WL as if she cursed in the House, or made a major linguistic blunder. You know the look people give to somebody who suddenly shows nudity in public? They were kind of relieved that it wasn't them in her place. It's difficult to describe, really.

ROTFL, Michelle. Actually, I think we should make this part of a short entrance exam required of all new entrants to babble.

quote: it is of particular value to lower income women who have no choice but to purchase these products.
You mean that wealthy women do have a choice as to whether they use these products or not? I think periods starting is one of the key reasons women use more toilet paper than men (at least I hope that's the reason) - and pray that it does the job until they make it to the store!Seriously, I can hardly wait until Doer takes off the tax Filmon put on diapers - now that is something you can't get away without using. And cloth diapers are great as long as you don't mind it if the kid has a rash and the place smells of urine. And the cost of laudry, and changing your clothes and bedding three times a day! For you Manitobans out there. Q: Why did Homer Simpson and his pal Barney come to Winnipeg? A: They heard that Duff's ditch was filled to the brim. Q: Why did Rue Paul come to Manitoba. A: He wanted to meet the Bronkhild Dike that saved Winnipeg.
