Gerald Kaufman, a Labour MP from Manchester - who is a strong critic of Israel, by the way - was subjected to physical and verbal abuse by a group of pro-fox-hunt demonstrators, "larcenous, racist scum" as he aptly called them. They kept deriding him as an "immigrant" (he was born in Leeds) and as a Jew. By the way, Mr Kaufman was born in 1931, so he is 72 or 73 years old ... http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,3604,1315845,00.htmlI loved the writing in Mr Kaufman's commentary. He discusses very serious issues with delicious irony - moreover, I find his little piece makes the connection between animal abuse and racist abuse of human beings in a far more intelligent and sensitive way than PETA's offensive campaigns have.
