An estimated two million people took to the streets across the U.S. Monday calling for comprehensive immigration reform that treats immigrants fairly and does not criminalize undocumented workers. "Open up the borders, shut down the war," roared an estimated 100,000 demonstrators as they marched through the streets of New York. "We are America," they chanted in unison, amid the loud beat of hundreds of drums. "Legalize, don't criminalize immigrants."

Not trying to launch a shameless plug here, but this is the subject of my next podcast bit on rabble radio. Its really amazing to see these massive street protests and suffice it to say, the media coverage has really shook up Washington.

They really don't seem to know what to do about it. I think many politicos are waiting to see if there will be a backlash by the Anglo communities/constituents. Many Republicans have got to be considering the Latino vote they may lose over this.

Given the state of our own population growth, I am wondering if this is something our migrants should consider?

I do find it odd, that we, a country built on immigration would now be sending home people who have worked and paid taxes in this country for half a decade or more... I find it very odd.

Not odd when the people they want to send home are in the country illegally.

Here's what George W. Bush doesn't admit: that the gang of which he's a charter member, wanted those porous borders with Mexico. They wanted them because the flow of illegals drove down real wages in the U.S. in agriculture, the building trades, the domestic trades, the food service and hospitality trades and a whole host of other industries that counted their fortunes on Wall Street while their labourers worked harder for less and the minimum wage remained stagnant since 1997.
