I know that McDonalds has had some questionable business practices, but what is your beef with Harvey's?

I'm not aware of anything, except the concerns that have been raised about fast food in general. Anyone know better?

I have a feeling -- just a vague suspicion, you understand -- that lagatta would always prefer to be eating food that is a little more, ah, fresh, shall we say.
I haven't had anybody's burgers in such a long time, but of all the burger chains, I liked Harvey's best too.

Well, I can understand that. Usually Harvey's isn't too bad, though once I went there and the usually excellent veggieburger had the texture of shoe leather.

I like to be able to pick and choose among the relishes. Any other chain I've been to, one has to order a sort of prescription burger and take it as prescribed. I've only been to a McDonald's once in my life, at the Toronto Zoo, where we seemed to have no choice and the younger Scottish cousins were clamouring. Next time, we took a picnic.

Hi Gir - no particular beef with Harvey's - and what I said didn't imply a boycott of them, or of McDo for that matter. Just prefer to eat less mass-produced foods. In Montreal, if one wants burgers and the like (including falafel, etc, for vegetarians) there are many options that aren't big chains.
Moreover, I sure wouldn't claim that mom & pop businesses are necessarily better employers than chains - the restaurant field is a particularly poor sector in terms of unfair and shady labour practices, according to people I know at the Labour Standards Board (Commission des normes du travail) here.

Actually, from my serving experience, I'd rather be in one of the big ones sometimes. A Red Lobster has deep pockets, so sticks to the letter of the law. Ma and pa really don't care.
Labour regulation tend to be rather lax in the food service industry.

Ain't "Harvey's" still owned by Cdn food conglomerate Cara Foods of "Swiss Chalet" fame?
the only reason for my soft spot for harveys is cause that's where my dad took my mom when they were dating.
