Though I generally appreciate nature and natural beauty, three moments in my life stand out from anything else I've seen.First was when I was skiing at Sunshine Village. It was a partially cloudy day where the visible sky remained bright blue. It was probably about two o'clock when it started snowing huge, soft flakes. In spite of the snow, the sun shone brightly and on either side of the sun were rainbows. Not your average rainbows, mind you, but bright clear vertical lines on either side of the sun. I have no idea how this occurred but it was absolutely stunning.
Second was not beautiful in the normal sense but definately awe inspiring. I was skiing (again) at Marmot Basin, near Jasper, and discovered a spot on one of the runs where if I looked in one exact direction my entire periferal vision was filled with uninterupted snow. There was not a tree or rock peeking through anywhere. Just white. It was the strangest feeling.
Third was in Montezuma, Costa Rica. Sitting on the beach late one night, with the forest behind us, one of the locals we were hanging out with turned to me and pointed to a light on the horizon. He asked me what I thought the light was. It was too far away to tell for sure but I told him I thought it was probably from a boat. A few minutes later he pointed again and we watched a stunning crescent moon rise over the ocean.
I've been thinking about these three moments alot lately. It's been a while since I've been out of Toronto.
