George W. Bush in welcoming the Pope:

quote:
"In a world where some invoke the name of God to justify acts of terror and murder and hate, we need your message that God is love. And embracing this love is the surest way to save men from falling prey to the teaching of fanaticism and terrorism."

George W. Bush in 2005:

quote:
"I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."

The Pope in 2007:

quote:
"Life is the work of God, and should not be denied to anyone.

The number of Iraqis denied God's work by George W. Bush at the time of his embracing by the Pope: Up to 1,000,000.

The Pope is reverting to his former role, that of Cardinal Ratzinger. CNN at 8pm - in 30 minutes - will talk about how the Pope is pissing off other denominations, Jews, and Muslims today.

ETA:

I'm obviously in a different time zone - the CNN segment on the Pope upsetting other faiths today
is on the Larry King show at 9pm, in half an hour.

CNN just did a half hour of the Pope meeting with sex abuse victims. Anyone else see it?

Yeah, though while I'm personally an atheist I know many fine religous people - including Catholics - who do not endorse Ratzi's behaviour or orientation.

I know a lot of religious people who have been tireless activists in the sanctuary movement for refugee claimants, for example.

I was a Catholic. It is because of its long, long history with Popes like Ratz, I am no longer. When do Christian beliefs and principles come before an actual church? Especially that church.

Well, I've listened to CNN most of the evening,
and although CNN said it was going to air a story
of how the Pope upset other faiths today, that
story was bumped by the surprise of the Pope
meeting with sexual abuse survivors, and by the
still breaking Texas polygamy story.

But at 6pm tonight, CNN said the Pope did upset
other faiths - and then didn't carry the story. I can't find a link to it, anywhere.

Last night, Jon Stewart had a clip on that showed Bush greeting the Pope, Bush called the Pope, "Reverend". I laughed so hard, until I stopped and thought about it, and then did not know whether to laugh harder, or blow it off as a ploy.

Bush has met with the Pope something like 6 times since he was first in office, the most times of any President, ever. So, has he called him Reverend everytime, or is he just playing stupid for the media and public?

You gotta wonder why Bush would bother with ploys anymore. Every time he opens his mouth these days, anything he says is drowned out by the quacking.

I was a Catholic too. Then I realized that it, like every religion, is completely full of shit.

Reading the Bible helped speed me along to that conclusion.
